MOVIE That I Just Saw: “Scoop.”
“Scoop” (Netflix) British biographical drama, a dramatic retelling of the process of securing the 2019 BBC television interview of Prince Andrew by presenter and journalist Emily Maitlis and the production team at BBC Two news and current affairs programme Newsnight.
The significant character here though, as projected in the run of the mill, nearly boring exercise, was Sam McAlister (obligatorily played by Billie Piper).
Raring for a scoop and gain the attention of TV hostess/star and editor Emily Maitlis (Gillian Anderson, usual her), Sam sought Amanda Thirsk (Kelley Hawes, firm and focused), Prince Andrew's assistant. Ms Maitlis delivered the questions but they interview was brokered by Ms McAlister.
The story, of course, is all about Prince Andrew's friendship with financier and sex offender Jeffrey Epstein and the royalty's alleged assault of a minor. If you have seen the 50-minute November 16, 2019 BBC Two interview, there's nothing much to see in this movie. Other than Rufus Sewell is a better actor than Prince Andrew Albert Christian Edward Windsor a.k.a. Duke of York. 🎥💻📽
