“Black Crab.” / “Carry-On.”

“Black Crab” (2022, Netflix) Swedish action thriller film directed by Adam Berg, based on the 2002 novel “Svart Krabba” by Jerker Virdborg. 



       Noomi Rapace is Caroline Edh, a speed skater who is conscripted to join a team of soldiers for a dangerous mission to skate across sea ice behind enemy lines. The team is tasked with delivering a secret package to an island research base, which they are told could end the war. 

       A pacifist journey into the howling Scandinavian winter wind yet the impact is a claustrophobic stab at defeatist nothingness. Meanwhile, the real highlight in this moral tale is the thin ice and the gray surrounding. Jonas Alarik's cinematography cements that dejected terror. Edh is all dead end terror herself. Noomi Rapace channeled her like a cat's blank stare. 🎥💻📽




“Carry-On” (2024, Netflix) action thriller about a young TSA officer who's blackmailed into letting a nerve agent onboard a flight during Christmas Eve. First, this is not a Christmas-themed movie; second, it isn't so bad at all. But the 119 minute ride is dominated by just Taron Egerton, the hero, and Jason Bateman, the villain. 

       Passable weekend distraction from Luigi obsession and drone madness on Social Media. For me, it's mostly Facebook or TV. TV time: “Carry-On” is a fine 3-PBR couch night. 🎥💻📽

“Tulsa King.” (Paramount+ via Amazon) c rime drama or comedy drama or dramedy action, whatsoever suits you. I am not really a huge fan of Sylvester Stallone , regardless of “Rocky I,” but hey that was 47 years ago! Yet I need to admit that I am on Taylor Sheridan fix and I thought the writer isn’t going to lose (at least for me). Add co-creator Terence Winter of “The Sopranos” and “Boardwalk Empire” fame, plus his remarkable screenplay of Martin Scorsese 's “ The Wolf of Wall Street .”         But this Tulsa whatever is a disappointment.         Mr Stallone is Dwight "The General" Manfredi, a New York Mafia capo who has just finished serving a 25-year prison sentence. MOVIES That I Just Saw: “Dream Scenario.” / “Arizona.”

“Dream Scenario” (2023, Amazon Prime) dark comedy fantasy film written and directed by Norwegian filmmaker Kristoffer Borgli , and starring Nicolas Cage. I didn't know who Mr Borgli was until this fine movie reminded me of Mr Cage in 2002's “Adaptation.”        This movie received positive reviews and was nominated for awards including a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor – Motion Picture Musical or Comedy for Nicolas Cage .        Plot take off: Sophie, a teenage girl, has a dream in which a man is raking leaves by a swimming pool. As Sophie starts floating up to the sky, she cries for help from this man whom she calls Dad. Her father, Paul Matthews (Nic) is a professor of evolutionary biology at a local university.
