“Lawmen: Bass Reeves” (Netflix) historical Western, co-produced by Taylor Sheridan. The miniseries is based on the life of one of the first African American Deputy U.S. Marshals west of the Mississippi River, Bass Reeves. 


       As Bass Reeves, David Oyelowo carried this engaging series with grit and grace of a Denzel Washington and cool sternness of a Sidney Poitier. Although the preachy moralism sort of annoys me in some instances, the fluid pace and never-boring scripting, a facet of Mr Sheridan's work, kept the dramatic tension alive. 🎥💻📽


“Dominion Creek” (Amazon Prime) Season 1. Irish Western. Set during the Klondike Gold Rush, it portrays the lives of three Irish brothers in the fictional town of Dominion Creek who possess their own mining claims.



       The first season is a compelling watch for the overall performance, tight storyline, and production design that brings you to the muddy dishevel of 19th century Yukon. That'd be regardless that “Deadwood” is the standard in this genre. 

       In 2016, the first season of An Klondike received nine Irish Film and Television Award nominations, winning four awards: one each for Best Drama, Actor, Make-Up and Script. 🎥💻📽

“Death By Lightning” (Netflix) historical drama miniseries, based on the 2011 book “ Destiny of the Republic ” by Candice Millard . Stars Michael Shannon as United States President James A. Garfield and Matthew Macfadyen as his assassin Charles J. Guiteau .         The series depicts the election and presidency of Mr Garfield , the 20th U.S. President , including his anti-corruption and pro-civil rights stances, as well as how his path crossed with Mr Guiteau , a deluded admirer, who ended up shooting him , leading to the president's death. Garfield served for only over 6 months or 199 days to be exact.         In only 4 concise episodes, this significant chapter in American history is revisited in a tight, no-frills, no irritating Republican versus Democrat grandstanding. “Slow Horses” (AppleTV+) Season 5, British spy thriller , based on the Slough House series of novels by Mick Herron . Slough House is an administrative purgatory for MI5 service rejects who have bungled their job but have not been sacked. Those consigned there are known as "slow horses," a pun on "Slough House.”        I don't mind if this very enjoyable series goes to Season 20. And I'd like the current cast, led by Gary Oldman, to stay. As Jackson Lamb, the boss of this whacked team of MI5 rejects, his charming obnoxiousness (!) is the life of the show. The misfits are brilliantly orchestrated and shrewdly distributed per need, drama, comedy, and thrill. My most favorites are Aimee-Ffion Edwards as the jumpy and constantly pissed Shirley Dander, and oh yeah, Christopher Chung as the arrogant tech weirdo Roddy Ho.
