“Slow Horses."

“Slow Horses” (AppleTV+) Season 4, British spy thriller, based on the Slough House series of novels by Mick Herron. Slough House is an administrative purgatory for MI5 service rejects who have bungled their job but have not been sacked. Those consigned there are known as "slow horses," a pun on "Slough House.”

This addictive series has been renewed for a fifth series. In October 2024, ahead of the 5th series premiere, it was renewed for a sixth series, which will be based on the sixth and seventh books in the Slough House books.

For me, the major allure of “Slow Horses” are its characters or the “slow house” peeps, led by Gary Oldman as Jackson Lamb, the boss who is slovenly, rude, devious and has a mordant wit. The others: Jack Lowden as River Cartwright, an often confused but smart agent; Saskia Reeves as Catherine Standish, a recovering alcoholic; Rosalind Eleazar as Louisa Guy, constantly broken-hearted but stays romantic; Christopher Chung as Roddy Ho, an obnoxious but brilliant computer nerd; Aimee-Ffion Edwards as Shirley Dander, who has anger and drug issues but she’s my crush; Kadiff Kirwan as Marcus Longridge, who tends to gamble on the job, and Tom Brooke as J.K. Coe, a former operative from Psych Eval, just weird.

These personages are expected to endure dull, paper-pushing tasks, along with occasional mental abuse from their miserable and disgusting, low-hygiene boss, Mr Lamb. Funny guys they are. Although the series strives to be thriller-serious rather than comedy-serious. I love it! 🎥📺📽
