“MobLand."

“MobLand” (Paramount+) crime drama. The Harrigans, a London crime family, find themselves in a battle with the Stevensons that could end empires and their lives. Harry Da Souza is called upon by the Harrigans to be their "fixer" and to protect their family.

The real fun in the show are Helen Mirren as Maeve Harrigan and Pierce Brosnan as Conrad Harrigan, the deliciously evil crime couple. “MobLand” is no different from any other gangster cinema--plotline, characters, sequences, language, costume etcetera–but Ms Mirren and Mr Brosnan light 'em like a spring break bonfire on a winter solstice.

Wives and women in Wise Guy movies are simply decorative weepers and submissive bedmates. But here, Maeve runs the show and you don't know how she'd blow up the joint in Season 2, so wait up! And I want more of the cool and calculated muscle/driver Zosia, cool and calculated Jasmine Jobson.

Tom Hardy as the fixer Harry is pretty much Tom as Patrick in that recent Gareth Evans wreckage “Havoc,” cold as cadaver as though he's not acting at all; though that's what the character calls for. Stupidly smart snowcone. I prefer Mr Hardy's bad boy badass Alfie Solomons in “Peaky Blinders.” That one rambled an original badness with a kickass accent.

Anyhow, the real revelation in “MobLand” is Paddy Considine as Kevin Harrigan, son of Conrad and Maeve, and Harry's longtime working partner. Not hysterical or showy, his restraint while panicky as a jammed Glock and bated implosion as a bomb with a kilometric fuse are a performance to watch.

       Bring it! 🎥💻📽
