MOVIES THAT SUCK (or kind of “suck”) I Finished Them Nonetheless.
<>“The Feeling That the Time for Doing Something Has Passed” (2023, Hulu) comedy film, written by, directed by, and starring Joanna Arnow. Ann is a thirty-three year-old woman in a long-term casual BDSM relationship with Allen as his submissive.
Good or bad movie? That'd be an individual take. This deadpan comedy is so “deadpan” that the characters, led by Joanna Arnow as Ann (but except veteran Scott Cohen as Allen), appear like mouthing their words via a slow-moving prompter. That's the thing, I guess. The deadpan-ness makes this little movie funny.
Added "attraction," if you'd call it that, is a naked Joanna or Ann in a number of “tamed” BDSM sequences, which are more parody than what you may think. 🎥💻📽
“Between Worlds” (2018, Plex) supernatural thriller film, follows a down-on-his-luck truck driver haunted by the memory of his deceased wife and child. He meets a spiritually gifted woman who enlists the dude in a desperate effort to find the lost soul of her comatose daughter.
Nic is supposedly backed up by the usually remarkable Franka Potente in this “thriller,” but nothing comes close to “thrill” in this another day-on-the-job movie by Mr Cage.
He tried to do the raunchy with unsexy Penelope Mitchell but nope. Not sexy or erotic. Nic isn't even funny here. Next! 🎭👎🎬
“How to Plan an Orgy in a Small Town” (2015, Tubi) Canadian sex comedy. Plot: A newspaper sex columnist, Cassie Cranston, returns to her hometown for her mother's funeral for the first time since being slut-shamed by her high school classmates who caught her trying to lose her virginity.
Fast forward. Current times. These same high school classmates are now neighbors; some are married, others are single. For some reason that the writer/director Jeremy LaLonde knew, of course, Cassie was suddenly organizing an orgy with the same people though she's not supposed to participate in the shenanigan, just the director.
Director. So they had to practice or have a dry-run before they did the actual thing. I mean, do people rehearse or practice an orgy? LOL!
Not sure if I previously saw these relatively unknown actors and actresses in other movies or series, except Mark O'Brien who was good in the 2019 TV series “City on a Hill.” His talent is wasted in this juvenile, frat house-styled silliness. 🎭👎🎬
“Wrong” (2012, Amazon Prime) indie surreal comedy film written and directed by Quentin Dupieux. Synopsis: Dolph wakes up early in the morning in his suburban home to find that his dog is missing. Later on, in denial after losing his job, he recurrently returns to his place of employment and pretends to work while experiencing surrealistic changes and events in his life. In hopes of returning his life back to normal, he begins a search for his lost dog.
Weird movie. Except with Dolph hoping his dog Paul will return one day, nothing here really makes sense. Although Jack Plotnick as Dolph isn't so bad as a nonsense comedian of some sort. There's also veteran actor William Fichtner as Master Chang, with a weird Eastern European accent although his name is Chinese.
For some reason, I finished all one hour and 34 minutes of the movie. I guess I was waiting for Paul The Dog to come home, too. 🎭👎🎬
GAVE UP: “Hobo with a Shotgun” (2011, Plex) exploitation black comedy action, based on a fictitious trailer of the same name from 2007’s “Grindhouse.” Silliness with a shotgun.
