“Slow Horses." Season 5.

“Slow Horses” (AppleTV+) Season 5, British spy thriller, based on the Slough House series of novels by Mick Herron. Slough House is an administrative purgatory for MI5 service rejects who have bungled their job but have not been sacked. Those consigned there are known as "slow horses," a pun on "Slough House.”



       I don't mind if this very enjoyable series goes to Season 20. And I'd like the current cast, led by Gary Oldman, to stay. As Jackson Lamb, the boss of this whacked team of MI5 rejects, his charming obnoxiousness (!) is the life of the show. The misfits are brilliantly orchestrated and shrewdly distributed per need, drama, comedy, and thrill. My most favorites are Aimee-Ffion Edwards as the jumpy and constantly pissed Shirley Dander, and oh yeah, Christopher Chung as the arrogant tech weirdo Roddy Ho. Ho indeed is the upper fix of Season 5.

       Season 5 plot: The team investigates a series of terrorist attacks in London while navigating a high-stakes political campaign and internal MI5 struggles. The plot centers on a destabilization plot orchestrated by a terrorist group, which unexpectedly involves Roddy Ho as a pawn. Jackson Lamb and his team must stop the attacks and protect themselves from the ambitious MI5 head, Claude Whelan, who attempts to shut down Slough House. The season concludes with a significant power shift in MI5 after Lamb uses a blackmail recording to force Whelan's resignation, allowing Diana Taverner to become the new head and keep Slough House operational, though River Cartwright is denied a promotion. 

       Each curtain-close of season offers a more entertaining season to expect. I am not disappointed; in fact, very pleased. 🎥👍📽

“Toxic Town” (Netflix) British drama miniseries , follows the story of three mothers involved in the Corby toxic waste case , which was a London court case that was decided in 2009. The Corby Borough Council was found liable in negligence , public nuisance and a breach of statutory duty for its reclamation of a Corby Steelworks in the town of Corby , Northamptonshire , between 1985 and 1997.          The landmark decision was historically significant as the first in the world to establish a link between atmospheric toxic waste and birth defects – all previous cases have involved water pollution – and held implications for other council reclamation programmes and the methods of conducting reclamation in England and Wales.        The case easily reminds us of Erin Brockovich and the 2000 movie that chronicled Erin's legal fight against Pacific Gas & Electric Company (PG&E) in the early 1990s involv...

MOVIES That I Just Saw: “Dream Scenario.” / “Arizona.”

“Dream Scenario” (2023, Amazon Prime) dark comedy fantasy film written and directed by Norwegian filmmaker Kristoffer Borgli , and starring Nicolas Cage. I didn't know who Mr Borgli was until this fine movie reminded me of Mr Cage in 2002's “Adaptation.”        This movie received positive reviews and was nominated for awards including a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor – Motion Picture Musical or Comedy for Nicolas Cage .        Plot take off: Sophie, a teenage girl, has a dream in which a man is raking leaves by a swimming pool. As Sophie starts floating up to the sky, she cries for help from this man whom she calls Dad. Her father, Paul Matthews (Nic) is a professor of evolutionary biology at a local university.
