“The Morning Show." Season 4.

“The Morning Show” (Apple TV+) Season 4. Media drama examines the characters and culture behind a network broadcast morning news program. 



       Season 4 concludes with Alex and Cory conspiring to take down UBN CEO Celine Dumont after she orchestrated the cover-up of the Wolf River story and left Bradley Jackson held hostage in a Belarusian gulag. The plot culminates in Alex, with Chip, her father, and Cory's help, broadcasting Celine's incriminating phone call, leading to her ruin and release of Bradley. 

       Yet that story only actually developed in the last 3 episodes, or it was there all along, but the show's dizzying slew of back-stories, subplots, side-dramas, and multiple characters confused me. 

       I get the point of it all or the real-life/current-politics or real-VIPs that this series is pushing down our throats. The convoluted ruckus also somehow made some major pieces (such as Cory Ellison) inconsistent or contradictory per previous seasons. Some guys are cliches, such as podcaster Brodie. 

       Not that I am saying “The Morning Show” sucks. Nope. Still entertaining overall. Season 1 was the best. Focused, tight, non-soapy. Meanwhile, there will be a Season 5. 🎥💻📽

“Toxic Town” (Netflix) British drama miniseries , follows the story of three mothers involved in the Corby toxic waste case , which was a London court case that was decided in 2009. The Corby Borough Council was found liable in negligence , public nuisance and a breach of statutory duty for its reclamation of a Corby Steelworks in the town of Corby , Northamptonshire , between 1985 and 1997.          The landmark decision was historically significant as the first in the world to establish a link between atmospheric toxic waste and birth defects – all previous cases have involved water pollution – and held implications for other council reclamation programmes and the methods of conducting reclamation in England and Wales.        The case easily reminds us of Erin Brockovich and the 2000 movie that chronicled Erin's legal fight against Pacific Gas & Electric Company (PG&E) in the early 1990s involv...

“A Real Pain.” / “The Marsh King's Daughter.” / “10,000 Saints.”

“A Real Pain” (2024, Hulu) buddy road comedy-drama film written and directed by Jesse Eisenberg . Stars Mr Eisenbeg, the perennially well-loved nerd, and Kieran Culkin, the perennially fun pain in the butt. They are Jewish American cousins who travel to Poland to honor their late grandmother.         As the Kaplans, David and Benji, navigate their mismatched terrain, they are joined by a few diverse characters. But it's all about the cousins. Major reason why this little movie worked is because we essentially see ourselves in them, but sans overwrought sentimentalism and “cinematic” antics. No tears, no chases, no yelling.        This movie was named one of the top ten films of 2024 by the National Board of Review and the American Film Institute .
