DRAMA THRILLERS About The Missing: “Girl Taken.” / “The Lost Station Girls.” / "Inspector Rojas.”
“Girl Taken” (Paramount+) British crime drama, based on the novel “Baby Doll” by Hollie Overton. A family living in a quiet English rural town are impacted by the actions of a seemingly respected local teacher.
This 6-episode series commands a daytime soap magnetism that keeps you glued. Plot twists cut through the drama and, despite the implausibility in the final sequences, we knew how'd the end game be.
Still, the ensemble acting is involved or engaged. Hence, the show's binge-watch allure. 🎥💻📽
"Inspector Rojas" (Amazon Prime) Season 1. Chilean crime drama about a police captain investigating the disappearance of 12 young girls in the late 1990s.
Anchored on Francisco Melo's icy but involved Inspector Rojas, this true-crime thriller has enough intrigue and allure to keep us engaged. Not daytime soap sudsy but more police procedural earnest. Not so complex. 🎥💻📽
“The Lost Station Girls” (Hulu) French true crime, based on the Gare de Perpignan murders. The story is centred around the disappearance of a young woman and the murder of three others in Perpignan in France which all occurred between 1995 and 2001.
Intense and interesting. But I can't help snoozing in each of the 6 episodes. Although the characters are based on real people, they are somehow depicted as stereotypes: Cops, victims, families of victims. The only characters that had “character” are the killers themselves.
And Camille Razat as detective Flore Robin delivered a boring performance. 🎥💻📽
