MYSTERY THRILLER. “Memory of a Killer.” / “Troppo.” / “Behind Her Eyes.”

“Memory of a Killer” (Hulu) crime drama. About an NYC hitman, who is living a double life as a suburban father and copier salesman. Diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer's, his two worlds collide as he races to save his family from threats connected to his past while battling his deteriorating memory.

Patrick Dempsey is sharp dresser cum contract killer Angelo Doyle, fresh from a GQ cover onto the next hit. He doesn't talk much, just like the Bee Gees’ “I'm a woman's man, no time to talk.” But Mr Doyle is more into his job to really focus on romance and such.

Michael Imperioli is his boss Dutch, who is of course Italian, and a chef. How stereotypical can you get! But what he does here is pretty much what he did in “The Sopranos,” but this time he is a less bombastic gangster Boss.

This series, which is supposedly based on the 2003 Belgian film “De Zaak Alzheimer” and the 1985 novel of the same name by Jef Geeraerts, doesn't offer much beyond what we've already seen per the hitman genre. But it is still cool to see Patrick Dempsey walk around with a sleek Garrison Bespoke. 🎥💻📽

“Troppo” (Amazon Prime) Season 2. Australian crime drama, based on the best-selling novel “Crimson Lake” by Candice Fox, in which a former police officer helps a private investigator look for a missing man in Far North Queensland (Season 1). The second Season's plot is more complex.

The focal allure of this 2 Season crime drama is the magnetic chemistry between Thomas Jane as Ted Conkaffey and Nicole Chamoun as Amanda Pharrell. They are not romantic partners, but uncharacteristic public investigators. Both their backstories are compelling and serve as fuel to their current behavior, which grip the series, without falling into the cracks of crime cliches. 🎥💻📽

“Behind Her Eyes” (Netflix) British psychological thriller, based on the 2017 novel of the same name by Sarah Pinborough, revolving around a single mother who begins an affair with her psychiatrist boss, while simultaneously forming a strange friendship with his controlled, enigmatic wife.

The mind-boggling intrigue started just fine. Until around Episode 4 till the end. The twists, which are more wildly supernatural to me than mental derangement-induced, confound rather than offer clues. Plus the limited character development kept me questioning.

But I must concede, the performance level was charming: Eve Hewson, Simona Brown, Tom Bateman, and Robert Aramayo. 🎥💻📽
