“Trigger Point” (Amazon Prime) British crime thriller starring Vicky McClure as a police bomb disposal expert in London. Kickass edge-of-seat thriller, indeed. 



       Ms McClure's Lana Washington is an ex-military bomb disposal operative (known as an “Expo”) and Afghan War veteran who heads a Metropolitan Police bomb squad, using her skills to counter terrorist threats involving explosives.

       Coming from the remarkable “Line of Duty” series, Vicky sustains the deep-stare and steely grip in “Trigger Point.” You could almost feel the time-bomb tension in your veins then Lana brings you home  to the warm vulnerability and fragile borders of her private life.

       A third series or season is upcoming. Yeah! 🎥👍📽 


“Deceit” (Amazon Prime) British police drama miniseries, based on the true story of a controversial undercover operation carried out by Greater London's Metropolitan Police in 1992. 



       Codenamed “Operation Edzell,” an undercover policewoman from the Metropolitan Police Special Operations Group (SO10) contacted crime suspect Colin Stagg, posing as a friend of a woman with whom he used to be in contact via a lonely hearts' column. Over five months, with the help of a psychologist/profiler, the female cop attempted to obtain information from him by feigning a romantic interest, meeting him, speaking to him on the telephone and exchanging letters containing sexual fantasies. 

       I won't spoil your binge-watch (only 4 episodes) though. Basically, the police employed an infamous “entrapment” strategy of tricking the suspect into committing a crime or admitting to a crime in order to secure their prosecution. 

       Niamh Algar stars as the undercover police officer, codenamed "Lizzie James.” Ms Algar and Sion Daniel Young as Colin Stagg are the pulsating, erotically tensed center of “Deceit,” written by Emilia di Girolamo with fierce, clinical cohesion. The direction of Niall MacCormick is sparse, non-boisterously dramatic but disturbingly kneading. No graphic sex scenes here or slasher gore. It's all in the mind. 🎥👍📽

“Tulsa King.” “The Outsider.”

“Tulsa King.” (Paramount+ via Amazon) c rime drama or comedy drama or dramedy action, whatsoever suits you. I am not really a huge fan of Sylvester Stallone , regardless of “Rocky I,” but hey that was 47 years ago! Yet I need to admit that I am on Taylor Sheridan fix and I thought the writer isn’t going to lose (at least for me). Add co-creator Terence Winter of “The Sopranos” and “Boardwalk Empire” fame, plus his remarkable screenplay of Martin Scorsese 's “ The Wolf of Wall Street .”         But this Tulsa whatever is a disappointment.         Mr Stallone is Dwight "The General" Manfredi, a New York Mafia capo who has just finished serving a 25-year prison sentence. MOVIES That I Just Saw: “Dream Scenario.” / “Arizona.”

“Dream Scenario” (2023, Amazon Prime) dark comedy fantasy film written and directed by Norwegian filmmaker Kristoffer Borgli , and starring Nicolas Cage. I didn't know who Mr Borgli was until this fine movie reminded me of Mr Cage in 2002's “Adaptation.”        This movie received positive reviews and was nominated for awards including a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor – Motion Picture Musical or Comedy for Nicolas Cage .        Plot take off: Sophie, a teenage girl, has a dream in which a man is raking leaves by a swimming pool. As Sophie starts floating up to the sky, she cries for help from this man whom she calls Dad. Her father, Paul Matthews (Nic) is a professor of evolutionary biology at a local university.
