ACTION: “The Accountant.” / “The Accountant 2.” / “Hanna.”
“The Accountant” (2016, Amazon Prime) and “The Accountant 2” (2025, Amazon Prime) action thriller. Follows Christian Wolff, an autistic certified public accountant who makes his living sanitizing fraudulent financial and accounting records of criminal and terrorist organizations around the world that are experiencing internal embezzlement.
This is an enjoyable ride, mainly due to Ben Affleck's Christian than Ben himself. You know what I mean? Mr Affleck is like Keanu Reeves. They act when they are not really acting. Monotonous tone of voice, expressionless face, walking dead. So be it.
Part 1 is entertaining enough; Part 2 is double the fun. Add that Jon Bernthal (as Christian's brother Braxton) always gives credibility and excitement to every role given him. 🎥💻📽
“Hanna” (2011, Netflix) action thriller film. Hanna is a girl raised in the wilderness of northern Finland by her father, an ex-CIA operative, who trains her as an assassin. Then the CIA tracks them down for elimination. The story, written by Seth Lochhead, is intriguing enough to warrant a must-see. Add that the always remarkable Saoirse Ronan is Hanna; her pursuer, Marissa Wiegler is Cate Blanchett. And this is a Joe Wright movie. His A-1 credits: “Pride & Prejudice” (2005), “Atonement” (2007), “Anna Karenina” (2012), “Cyrano” (2021), and especially “Darkest Hour” (2017).
“Hanna” has enough action cred and dramatic panache to elicit a thumbs-up. Just one thought: Although genetically-engineered super, she is not a superhero enough to effortlessly travel from here to there, such as from Morocco to Berlin and Leipzig, and log in to an internet cafe, without money or credit card? 🎥💻📽
